All Bodies Are Bikini Bodies

Well before the start of the summer season, talks of a “summer body” are inevitably (and unfortunately) suddenly all around us. The commercial take on a "summer body" is wrought with shame-inducing images that are designed to make you feel inferior and unworthy of participating in all that the season has to offer.

Resist this bullshit.

Here's my take on how I believe you should get your body ready for the season:

1. Wear less clothing. Let your skin breathe.

2. Add sunblock not sunscreen because it's less toxic to your skin.

3. Get no more than 10-30 minutes of direct overhead sun exposure, depending on your skin's level of natural melanin.

4. Delight in the season's gifts - enjoy the fresh produce, the longer daylight hours, do summer-specific activities like swimming and hiking. Get all the fresh air you can.

5. Celebrate the season with friends and loved ones. Enjoy yourself.

6. Do Pilates because it makes your feel strong, capable and energized.

Check out my video-library class called "Vacation Special" for a short, sweet workout that you can take on the road. It’s especially great if you're traveling.
