Tribute

I was full of emotions at the news of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's passing recently. But I didn't really cry in a full-out-with-feeling kind of way until I saw this video of Ginsburg's longtime personal trainer Bryant Johnson.

It in, Johnson choses to say his last goodbyes to Ginsburg with three strong and solemn push-ups. I felt like I understood his choice on a visceral level. The relationship between the teacher and student can be an intimate and affirming one - especially in the Pilates and mindful movement professions.

When I saw Bryant's untraditional goodbye, I saw one body speaking to another saying something to the effect of: "I know you and I thank you for the gift of our time together." Well, this got me all gooey about wanting to spend more quality time with the community of rad people I've discovered with over the years -- which, my dears, is YOU.

The truth is I enjoy your company AND I believe in you. And, I'll admit, I selfishly want you all to be pain-free, energetic and able to enjoy as many physical options in your body for as long as humanly possible, so that you can have the skills and stamina necessary to continue to make the world a better place for all of us. I know from working with you directly that you're each capable of great things and living a meaningful life.
